The colorants for Murano glass are generally metal oxides which, when added to the vitrifiable mixture, develop their action during the melting phase, determining the coloration of the glass. For example, cupric copper oxide produces an aquamarine green hue, cuprous copper oxide produces red, cobalt oxide produces blue, etc.
“Gold leaf decoration”
. The gold leaf is placed near the hot glass paste during the initial processing phase, then it is covered with a further layer of glass, taken from the crucible. Following the final blowing of the glass paste, the metallic leaf crumbles inside into small fragments or dust.
“ - The Pauly & C. | CVM - Compagnia Venezia Murano, is an artistic glass factory in Murano founded more than one hundred and forty years ago. Its denomination arises from the merger in 1919 between Pauly & C., founded in 1902, and the Compagnia di Venezia e Murano, founded in 1866. The company also incorporates the brand of the historic MVM Cappellin & C, a company acquired in 1932 together with its designs and catalogs. In 1990 Pauly & C. | CVM - Compagnia Venezia Murano also acquired the Toso Vetri d'Arte glass factory.
Two generations of master glassmakers have trained in its glassworks, some of whom, after learning the art of glass and developing their qualities, at different times, detached themselves to found their own glassworks.
