Description:
Two delicate octagonal crystalline glass goblets expertly blown by Murano masters for Pauly. A pair of glasses with a particular shape, where you can taste a Vodka-Martini cocktail in the company (…"shaken" not "stirred"), watching the Lagoon at sunset. Signed: Pauly Murano - Venice - 20th century Measurements: octagonal glass with smooth rim, height cm. 18 octagonal glass with rim worked with "drops", height cm. 17.8 €400.00 per pair Definition of "Crystalline glass" "Crystalline glass" is defined as colorless and transparent glass, decolorized with manganese dioxide, obtained with purified raw materials. Since the Middle Ages, crystal has been considered the most precious Murano glass. The secret of its quality lies in the purity of the raw materials used, the use of decoloring agents, the preparation of the vitrifiable mixture and the conduct of the fusion. In 1400, the art of Murano glass experienced a historical turning point thanks to Angelo Barovier, a fascinating figure of artist/scientist who managed to obtain, through a real alchemical process, a new type of extremely clean glass and so similar in transparency to crystal that he himself called crystalline glass (then Venetian crystal), which was subsequently reproduced in other European countries. Unlike Nordic crystal, which has a high concentration of lead oxide and which today must undergo strict controls relating to fumes from fusion, Murano crystal is a soda-lime glass whose main components, in addition to silica, are sodium oxide and calcium oxide. Soda crystal is very suitable for the production of particularly light blown objects that require long processing times. "- La Manifattura Pauly & C. | CVM - Compagnia Venezia Murano, is an artistic glassworks in Murano founded more than one hundred and forty years ago. Its name comes from the merger in 1919 between Pauly & C., founded in 1902, and the Compagnia di Venezia e Murano, founded in 1866. The company also incorporated the brand of the historic MVM Cappellin & C, a company acquired in 1932 together with the designs and catalogs. In 1990, Pauly & C. | CVM - Compagnia Venezia Murano also acquired the Toso Vetri d'Arte glassworks. Two generations of master glassmakers were trained in its glassworks, some of whom, after learning the art of glass and developing their qualities, detached themselves at different times to found their own glassworks. Today, the doors of the ancient Paly showroom in Palazzo Cappello are closed, but thanks to a group of four Venetian companies, they have come together to save the prestigious brand.
