Pair of Bobbin Armchairs SOLD  Translated
Description:
Sold In the 17th century, chairs and armchairs with panels began to be built with some embellishments, such as shaped or turned front legs and armrest supports. The carving of the wood and panels becomes more vigorous with curls, volutes, and crumpled leaves. These two armchairs, constructed from carved walnut wood, with tall, rectangular backrests, rigid and only slightly inclined, moved only at the top by a slight curvature, have two guides completely covered by thin padding. They are the extension of the rear legs, turned into bobbins and delimited by a die at the ends, like the front ones to which they are connected by a turned H-shaped crossbar. The two front legs are also joined by two superimposed crossbars, also turned; all the legs have onion feet, and the seat band is completely covered by the fabric that covers the padding. The structural and decorative characteristics of this furniture reveal a typical Venetian influence; this is evident from the sculptural exuberance mitigated by greater moderation, typically Lombard, in the movement of the armrests, which are very harmonious and delicate, in the decoration of the crossbars, and in the shape of the backrest, which is slightly inclined to give the seated person dignity and importance in addition to the necessary comfort. These two armchairs are certainly for a reception room; indeed, their size and elegance express the courtly and imposing manner typical of the importance they were intended to give to the family, quite unlike the smaller and less proportioned armchairs found in more intimate and familiar settings. Measurements: 140 cm by 70 cm seat The work, like all our objects, is sold with a photographic certificate of authenticity; this document identifies the object, adding value to the item.
