Adoration of the shepherds
Description:
Giovanni Domenico Ferretti (Florence 1692-1768). Ferretti, known as 'l'Imola' because of his origins, was one of the most important painters, both in fresco and on canvas, of Tuscan Rococo. He was a pupil in Florence of Tommaso Redi and Sebastiano Galeotti, while in Bologna he worked in the workshop of Felice Torelli and his wife Lucia Casalini. Furthermore, still in Bologna, he had the great Giuseppe Maria Crespi and Giovanni Giuseppe dal Sole as masters, all of which meant that the Tuscan classicist school and the great Emilian-Padan tradition merged in him, giving rise to a pictorial career of great originality. His frescoes can be found in many churches and noble palaces of Emilia and Tuscany, and other works on canvas can be found in the Uffizi museum, the civic museum of Pisa, the Chambery museum, etc. Canvas dimensions 112x84.
