Antique oil painting on canvas by Camillo Sagrestani, Florence 1660 - 1731
Description:
Oil painting on canvas in a vintage frame.
"Camillo Sagrestani"
(Florence 1660 - 1731)
The oil painting on canvas, measuring 45 x 34 cm excluding the frame, depicts Saint Anthony of Padua at the moment when the Child Jesus appears to him surrounded by angels.
This is a Florentine work dating from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries and has unmistakable stylistic features, in this case, of Giovanni Camillo Sagrestani, certainly the most important leader of the Florentine school of the last Medici and a worthy heir to the fresco skills of Luca Giordano.
Very famous as a painter of frescoes, numerous are the palaces, villas and churches that were decorated by this artist, and is remembered by sources as a "delightful painter".
In effect, Sagrestani composes his inventions with extreme virtuosity, modulated by a clear value and by a capacity of touch where the light achieves truly surprising results.
The same skill can also be seen in the rare easel paintings, of which this is a precious example due to the admirable state of preservation and freshness of the color.
