Vittorio Amedeo Cignaroli (Turin, 1730-1800) Landscape with travelers and livestock Oil on canvas, cm 50 x 66 With contemporary frame in perfect condition, still on its original canvas Vittorio Amedeo Cignaroli is today unanimously considered by critics as the best Piedmontese landscape painter of the eighteenth century and a series of artistic and archival studies have allowed in the last twenty years to define his human and cultural path. The painter was born in Turin on April 15, 1730 within a family of Veronese origin that since the seventeenth century had important artists to its credit (we remember, among many, the grandfather of Vittorio Amedeo: Martino Cignaroli, active in Verona, Milan, Asti). The parents were the Piedmontese Marianna Cavet and Scipione, an illustrious landscape painter, native of Milan, active for the Savoy court since the beginning of the eighteenth century.
