Gioacchino Meluzzi
(Imola, 1884 – Imola, 1953). Painter, sculptor, engraver, cabinetmaker. He had his workshop for many years at the Santa Caterina Institute, where he composed most of his works. He was a skilled furniture maker, sought after by the upper middle class and nobility who demanded artistic furniture. He was one of the greatest representatives of classical cabinetmaking in Emilia-Romagna, with frequent and well-calibrated references to the 15th and 16th century tradition of sculpture, especially in the Tuscan area.
The eight "Dantesca" chairs (a type of chair derived from the one otherwise known as "alla Savonarola"), are masterfully hand-carved in solid mahogany with a leather seat and back. Austere, elegant and "very comfortable"!
The room can be proposed as a whole as it was commissioned to the Master in 1930 (the date and signature of the author are visible at the base of the bas-relief depicting the Madonna and Child).
