Gioacchino Meluzzi
(Imola, 1884 – Imola, 1953). Painter, sculptor, engraver, cabinetmaker. For many years he had his workshop at the Santa Caterina Institute, where he composed most of his works. He was a skilled furniture maker, sought after by the upper middle class and nobility who demanded artistic furniture. He was one of the greatest representatives of classical cabinetmaking in Emilia-Romagna with frequent and well-calibrated references to the Quattro- and Cinquecento tradition of sculpture, especially in the Tuscan area.
The table is in solid mahogany with important sculptures on the sides carved from solid wood depicting angels. Adorned with two pairs of columns that join to the Greek frets of the frame, entirely handmade, the green marble top with white veins enhances the elegance of the whole.
The room can be offered as a whole as it was commissioned to the Master in 1930 (date and signature of the author are visible at the base of the bas-relief depicting the Madonna and Child).
