Giuseppe Recco, Still life of fish, shellfish, oysters and corals
Description:
Signed lower left G.R.
Professor Riccardo Lattuada's sheet
The thick weave and chalk preparation of the canvas are clearly of Neapolitan production, and are datable during the 17th century. The presence, in the lower left corner of the painting, of a signature that can be easily dissolved into "EQ•S [the first two fragmented letters, intertwined] R.co" (fig. 2), together with the comparison of the executive and stylistic characters of the painting, makes it certain that we are facing an autograph work by Giuseppe Recco (Naples, 1634 - Alicante, 1695).
