Capriccio with the temple of Vesta, Oil on canvas
Period : 18th century
18th century, Roman painter Capriccio with the temple of Vesta Oil on canvas, 65 x 72 cm; with frame 72 x 97 cm The temple of Vesta is a small round temple (tholos) located at the eastern end of the Roman Forum in Rome, along the Via Sacra next to the Regia and the Casa delle Vestali: together with this last building it constituted a only religious complex, with the name of atrium Vestae. The ancient authors agree on the origin of the temple of Vesta in the royal age, but, probably due to the constant presence of fire, the temple, in its arrangement inside the Forum, suffered numerous destructions by fire and was repeatedly rebuilt , m
